DR. SHAHRIAR KOSARIEH

Dr. Shahriar Kosarieh is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (CEng), skilled researcher and an assistant professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds, UK. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and completed a Master's degree in Advanced Mechanical Engineering with Distinction at the University of Leeds. His PhD research, sponsored by Infinium UK, addressed some of the fundamental issues pertaining to lubricant/hard coating compatibility including friction, wear, and coating durability. He has been involved in planning, conducting, and managing multiple industry-led research and industrial consultancy projects mainly sponsored by lubricant, coating, and automotive industries. He is highly active in the areas of braking systems, surface engineering, tribology and tribochemistry of hard (thin and thick) coatings. His current research employs a mixture of experimental and theoretical techniques to gain a better understanding of interactions between innovative coatings and functional surfaces in the dry and lubricated contacts.  He is an active Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (MIMechE), Tribology Group Committee Member of the Institute of Physics (MInstP), Member of the Society of Tribologist and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
